Accommodating learning style
Note that this part of Kolb's model is more useful in that rather than trying to pinpoint a learning style, he provides a model learning program.
Kolb called this Experiential Learning since experience is the source of learning and development (1984).
Note: “Experiential” means relating to or resulting from experience while “experimental” means relating to or based on experiment.
Kolb uses the term “experiential” as his theory is based more on reflection of experiences.
We talk constantly about finding ways to reduce the mental energy a Dyslexic student or adult expends when they are doing cognitive tasks.
The less energy used for processing, the more can be devoted to memory, comprehension and using what is learned.
While others use “experimental” when referencing experimental-inquiry techniques that requires learners to test hypothesis (experiment) about content knowledge.
Perhaps you need to watch a video to make sense of the steps.
You may need to see a piece of furniture in your home before you know it works, using your visual side, or throw the directions away when putting a bookshelf together, preferring to learn by doing.
